What Are You Best At?
A simple post with perhaps a not so simple answer. But one I’d like you to attempt.
If you had to choose one thing, what are you the best at?
That is all.

Understanding patterns. I recently realized that *EVERYTHING* I’ve ever been good at (dance, engineering, knitting, IT support, cooking, relationships) boils down to:
– being aware of lots of details
– sifting them into an understanding of what’s actually going on
– seeing what to do with that information. (Well, most of the time I see what to do.)
Listening. I used to hate that I always the listener in relationships but now I love how well it serves me in my acting.
I have a very odd left brain/right brain relationship. When I take those personality profile thing-ys, “Intuiting” and “Sensing” are always tied, as in: I’m INCREDIBLY organized – so I’m great at doing things that require extreme anal-retentiveness; and I am a very good playwright partly because I have a vivid imagination and am able to give over to my creative unconscious relatively easily.
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I hope you don’t mind me taking this another step.
@Nadira Looks like you’ve got a good start for the 13 boxes there. =) (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)
@Dawn
Growing up my step-dad used to always say to me, “You don’t talk much do you? Just taking it all in, huh?”
He was right. I always find myself listening first, hearing people out then making a judgement on what to say.
How would you say listening has served you in acting?
@Toni I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’ve got yourself a nice little checklist you consult when preparing to write a play.
Or am I completely off?
